Chefchaouen

We took a trip north during Memorial Day weekend to Chefchaouen. It is very close to the Mediterranean and Tangiers. The drive there is just amazing, with rolling patchwork hills, full of different colors this time of year. Orange, red, yellow, purple, green. Lovely. The town itself is built into the side of the Rif mountains and is known for its blue and white walls. It's gorgeous. Kirk got to do some mountain biking with a couple friends and get an idea of what the terrain is like for possible future biking treks.
(In case you don't know, he is dreaming and scheming about a bike shop/club/touring company. More about that later...)

We had an interesting first night in a hostel, and a better second night in a basic but cozier hotel. Let's just say the people in charge weren't smoking pot and it was warm. The first night, chilly and a bit too much smoke. :) Next time we'll stay where our friends stayed. It was a good price and lovely! There were no real grocery stores in Chefchaouen. Just the little corner stores we know so well here in Morocco, called hanuts. (pronounced "hanoots") So we were a bit short on groceries. We also had some car problems on the way home. Thanks to some helpful guys at a rest-stop/gas station we got on the road. It was definitely an adventure. Next time we'll be more prepared with lots of groceries and we'll make a reservation at the nice place!

In other news, 2 1/2 weeks until we get on the airplane! We look forward with anticipation, excitement, curiousity and even some nervousness to returning to the states after 2 years and beginning a new phase of our work here.

Enjoy the photos!
