Well, I don't have any pictures to go with this post but I think you'll be fine with that by the end. There are not a lot of wild animals to be seen around here. A few birds, toads, and a wonderful big tortoise has found its way into our yard. But I had a run in with one of the more ubiquitous and . . . undesirable locals two nights ago. Here in Morocco there are cockroaches. BIG cockroaches, Three to four inches long and not only can they climb absolutely anything but I just found out they can fly too. Now I like bugs. Last week I found a spider trapped in our sink. Its body was as big as my thumb (that's pretty close to the size of the roaches) and its leg span was as big as my hand. I was enthralled. And I was determined not to kill him because he was such a beauty. But try as I might I could not free him. Every time I picked him up he would jump back into the sink for fear of me and he was so huge that there was a loud "splat" when he hit the porcelain. But Sarah came down before I could get him out the window and I ended up stepping on him to comfort my wife.
Anyway, back to the big cockroaches. Now, we weren't quite sure about their abilities and honestly I felt pretty safe in our bedroom because most of the time they stay in the kitchen enjoying the rubbish. But apparently they are not content to stay downstairs because in the middle of the night I awoke to one of them crawling on my head. Luckily my cat like reflexes took care of the situation and I had flung him across the room before I was even fully awake .
Needless to say our slumber is now a little less blissful.
Why couldn't it have been peacocks or something?

Hey you guys! So gross but we totally understand - we were sleeping one night and Annamarie had two cockroaches crawling up her leg in the bed! Maybe it is a right of passage as it happened in the first month we were in Jordan!?
Pictures, I want pictures of the Cockroaches! Great story though, keep it up.
p.s. I miss you guys
Ahh! The memories! We loved our pet cockroaches when we were there. But don't worry Sarah, they go away when the weather cools down.
Sounds so familiar. We had a few sleepless nights in Tunisia...I woke up and heard a scraping sound and thought Jayson must be awake, but no, it was a cockroach by his head...it got away, and then we had to turn on the light, waking up our sleeping baby, as we chased that thing all over the bedroom. I couldn't sleep as long as it was still alive. Ugh...I hate bugs!
Apparently cockroaches are the price of paradise. They have big ones here in Hawaii as well.
Month balls work well..... Love Diana+
Put the moth balls in the bathroom and floor drains. I some countries they also put them in kitchen drains, but the smell is not too fun around food.
